UCLan Graduate Triumphs Over Health Challenges to Land Dream Job

Matt Allen, a recent graduate from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), has defied the odds to achieve his dream job despite facing severe health challenges. During his placement at PwC, Matt was suddenly hospitalized due to a perforated colon caused by diverticulitis, which led to emergency surgery and the use of a stoma bag. Despite these setbacks, Matt persevered and completed his studies from home, ultimately securing a position with the renowned food manufacturer, Warburtons.

Reflecting on his journey, Matt expressed the arduous nature of the past year, both physically and mentally. However, with unwavering determination and the support of those around him, he successfully completed his degree and joined the commercial finance team at Warburtons. Matt’s resilience is evident in his transition from initially intending to study psychology to discovering his passion for business and finance, ultimately leading him to pursue accounting at UCLan.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Matt actively engaged in practical experiences and volunteer work, highlighting his dedication and proactive approach to his career development. Looking ahead, Matt aspires to become a chartered management accountant and is determined to continue his professional growth.
