Salisbury Hospital Achieves Remarkable Reduction in Patient Falls

Salisbury District Hospital has successfully decreased patient falls by an impressive 54 percent, surpassing the national average set by the NHS. This remarkable accomplishment was achieved a year earlier than expected, demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to enhancing patient care and safety.

Across the country, patient falls in hospitals are frequently reported as adverse events leading to potential injuries. Though it’s impossible to eliminate such incidents entirely, the hospital staff’s efforts in preventing falls and mitigating risks for high-risk patients have proven effective.

Through a combination of extensive training, process enhancements, and the establishment of a multi-professional falls prevention group, the hospital has consistently improved its performance, surpassing the initial three-year target of a 30 percent reduction.
