Police Crack Down on Christmas Crime in Chippenham

Chippenham police have intensified their efforts to combat shoplifting and anti-social behavior in the town’s shopping areas ahead of the festive season.

The authorities have deployed undercover officers to patrol the town center, Bath Road, and Hathaway Retail Parks during the peak shopping period.

Although no arrests have been made during the recent patrols, the police have affirmed their commitment to maintaining a heightened presence in the run-up to Christmas.

During a recent patrol, officers encountered several individuals soliciting for money in the High Street.

PC Aimee Jenkins emphasized, “Officers have engaged with these individuals and discovered that they are not locally based, but are traveling to the town to beg during peak daytime shopping hours. It’s important for the public to refrain from providing money and instead support homeless charities. These organizations are equipped to provide essential aid and guide individuals to appropriate support services based on their specific circumstances and needs.”
