A 36-year-old man, Feras Al-Jayoosi, was apprehended by counter-terrorism officers on suspicion of sending threats and emails to local MP Justin Tomlinson, who represents Swindon. Along with the charge of stalking, Al-Jayoosi is also facing an unrelated allegation of criminal damage. During his appearance at Swindon Magistrates’ Court, he only revealed his name, date of birth, and address.
According to the prosecution, Al-Jayoosi’s actions caused “serious concern” to the MP due to the emails and threats he sent related to the Israel-Gaza conflict. Sangit Purewal, the legal advisor, emphasized the gravity of the case and recommended that only the Chief Magistrate should preside over it. The prosecution pushed for custody remand, while the defense opted not to apply for bail.
The magistrates remanded Al-Jayoosi in custody, scheduling his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court for November 29.
