Kingsbury Green Academy Students Shine at Calne Festival

Kingsbury Green Academy students have reason to celebrate as two of their GCSE art pieces were sold at the recent Calne Music and Arts Festival, marking a significant milestone in their artistic careers. The festival, open to artists of all ages and stages, featured a total of five student exhibitors, all of whom displayed their prowess with a diverse range of techniques and themes.

The pieces showcased by the students were created as part of their GCSE Art course and encompassed various evocative and thought-provoking works of art. While not all pieces were available for purchase, two in particular caught the eye of discerning buyers: a photographic manipulation piece by pupil Leon and an edited photo of a butterfly by his classmate Hollie. Additional works on display included an oil pastel portrait by Katie, a self-portrait using oil pastels by Hollie, and a thought-provoking biro piece inspired by photographer Jason Travis, delving into themes of female safety and the memory of Sarah Everard.

Reflecting on the success, Leon, now in Year 12, expressed his surprise and delight at having his piece purchased, noting the purchaser’s enthusiasm for the artwork. Katie also shared her motivation for participating in the festival, emphasizing the value of gaining inspiration from fellow artists and the event as a whole.
