A canal boat was completely destroyed and submerged in water after being engulfed in flames on Saturday night (November 25) at the Kennet and Avon canal in Devizes.
The police reported no casualties as the firefighters worked to put out the blaze. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and Wiltshire Police have mentioned that there are no suspicious circumstances at present.
On Sunday (November 26), photos showed the extent of the destruction with the canal barge sunken in the water. The area continued to be under investigation with the presence of police officers and firefighters.

Following the incident, London Road was temporarily closed but has since been reopened. Wiltshire Police provided updates and mentioned that both the road and the canal footpath would be closed until further notice.
Wiltshire Police stated on Saturday night, “Emergency services are currently at the scene of a significant fire on a canal boat on the Kennet and Avon canal near the London Road bridge in Devizes. We are not aware of any casualties and while the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.”
